Photographer Ivar Kvaal (b. 1983) grew up in the deep Norwegian forests of Telemark. His photography has a strong editorial profile. Some will say his pictures show a relationship to a classical tradition and might be experienced as timeless, but at the same time capturing a sense of melancholy. His pictures stand out with a narrative sensitivity, telling something about presence and relating it to the present we live in.

Ivar eternalize moments and mixes it with beauty and poetry - visualizing something unsaid, something thought, seen or felt, but unspoken as underlying messages out of sight. His conceptual ideas are heavily influenced by philosophy and the history of art. He is versatile although he keeps the essence of his photographical expression intact through a strong dedication to his vision, which has become a trademark. Ivar graduated in 2009 with a First-Class Honours Degree in Documentary Photography (BA) from the University of Wales, Newport. Ivar has also studied Art History and Aesthetics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

In 2009 Ivar was selected for the reGeneration2: 'Tomorrow’s Photographers Today' exhibition by Musée de l'Elysée, Lausanne, Switzerland. In conjunction with the exhibition, a book will be published by Thames & Hudson.

Ivar travels extensively and does photography for magazines, newspapers, advertising, books, own projects and exhibitions. Please do not hesitate to make contact for any inquires or simply a friendly chat!
